What I read in September

September reads were super random. I was actually planning to read books that I ordered from Bookdepository last September, however, their delivery was so slow, so, in the meantime, I purchased some other random books from Bookxcess. And as you probably know, Bookxcess has limited choices, and it's so hard to pick a book that's on my wishlist.
It was pretty challenging as my books choice were so random. I just pick any books that grab my attention which I don't usually do as I plan before buying any book. Anyway, I noticed that last month I leaned more towards poetry.
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

This is my favorite book of the month. Set in the late 19th century, the story starts with Marilla and Matthew deciding to bring in a little boy to help with the farm, but a mistake brings Anne to them. It's a simple story, meant to be read for relaxation.
Anne, the main character, can be annoying in real life with her endless fancies and chatter, talking nonsense all the time! But Montgomery manages to make her constant talking likable. Anne isn't perfect; she makes unfailingly mistakes and imagines things, but I grew to love her throughout the book. This book has so many quotable, beautiful lines. I fell in love with Anne so hard, so I purchased the second and third books of the series right away. I finished the first one. And I plan to watch Anne With An E series on Netflix once I finish all three books.

The Wisdom of Sunday by Oprah Winfrey

I picked this book instantly when I saw Bookxcess offering this book for RM 19.90 when the regular price is RM 184.4, which came with a free journal notebook. I couldn't refuse the bargain. In this book, Oprah shares her interviews on her TV show, Super Soul Sunday. It has ten chapters, and each chapter starts with a narration of Oprah on her own spiritual journey, followed by her conversations and stories with spiritual teachers.
It's a quick and enjoyable read, but not as substantial and resonant as I'd hoped. Most of the conversations are about spirituality, some of it I loved, and some I disagreed with from my angle. This book has beautiful illustrations but distracting at some point, it would be better to put it on a separate page.

I love too quietly by Noor Iskandar

It's a book of poetry on the pain and grief of love. Beautifully written with deep insights. Maybe I've been single for a long time, but I can't help cringing every time I read his poems. But if I ever fall in love one day, I'll be sure to revisit the masterpiece again and reminisce.

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

The Prophet is a book of 26 prosaic poetry tales that depict life, action, and motive as they should be. In all, it is a prophet sharing his learning and wisdom to his people, spiritual guidance to become the best form of humans they can be. This book is pure art and just beautiful, it undoubtedly was one of the bestselling works of poetry ever written. But as I said earlier, this book is more spiritual so take it with a grain of salt.
